Happy findings

I got the nicest package today. A box full of felt that came all the way from Canada from a generous and crafty girl who shall soon be off on a great adventure. You know those moments when you just want to chuck everything and run off to explore the world? Well brave miss jen is actually doing it. Follow her adventures here.

Best of luck on your travels! When you return to our side of the ocean, I shall send you something lovely and felty!

Flowers and celebrations

I finally added some new flowers to Bandit Queen (which stupid blogger won't let me share pictures of). Guess you'll have to check them out in the shop.

And today's my birthday! I'm gonna sit on my porch with the hubby and pooches and eat pizza to celebrate. The actual party is Saturday. Cheers!

Felt puppetry

I've been feverishly working on felt finger puppets for scads of nieces and nephews. First I made this elephant, cat and queen:

Then dogs (one for each of three families)
Kings - who look a bit Amish to me:
Ninjas - who the husband pointed out really look like women wearing burkas:

And mermaids:

And here's a grouping of the last four. To me they kind of look like the begining line of some obscure joke. "A mermaid, a ninja, a king, and a dog walk into a bar..."

There mermaid is my fave so far.

Happy Blue House and a Mystery Felt Project

I made this cutesy house/box in my pottery class. I'm on a pottery hiatus for a bit since autumn is typically a nutty busy season for me.

And these felt medallions are part of a project i almost have done. I should be able to post the completed picture this weekend. I have such a soft spot for working with felt.

Never enough felt

I have had a chance to play with my felt pieces some more. Here's two felt flowers I made. I'm particularly pleased with the first one.

And while playing around with the felt bits I discovered the perfect pink afro. So I wanna try my hand at a gorgeous felt doll. I think she'll need some awesome felt bell bottomed pants .

I may try again at her face since I'm not happy with my first try.

Felted Girl Gone Wild

I finally finished my very first real needle felted creation. I obviously need more practice. I had visions of a group of tough-luck plucky women. The first is this lady (I think I called her Lorraine after Patty Griffin's song Sweet Lorraine):

I love her hair and her googly eyes. Her body is pretty meh - especially the whole arm and hand areas.

I think I need more supplies because all my roving was donated. While I like a lot of the colors (some of which is sparkly), I'd like to be able to work with bright colors of my own choosing. So maybe I need to venture to the yarn shop and buy lots of plain white roving and then learn how to dye it myself.

There are some super cute things being done with needle felting out there. I just need to keep playing with it and get better at it.

As Promised

First off, more felt goodness:

I really like this one - the shape and the colors are pretty. I'm not gonna even risk mucking it up with bad embroidery.
Branching out from regular 2d flowers. This 3d flower is too much of a temptation for the critters. The cats see it as a kitty toy. Lincoln thinks its his. I have to keep it in my button jar for safety.

I'm not satisfied with the pink haired woman. I'm gonna fuss with her some more.
I put this up over our spare room (computer/ craft space). Its a good reminder for both of us. Me to be crafting and him to be taking photographs more often.

This I do not love. I did them cause I saw them on Flickr (I'll find the link here in a moment). It didn't work out so well as I'd hoped, but I kind of like the flowery look of it when smooshed. Pondering a flowery wall art piece now instead of hanging globes.

Making Things

February is make something new everyday month (or something like that). Yesterday I made more of these:

Today I finished Robot Buddy, my first softie ever. He's not the best, but I'm happy to have finished him. He's made out of soft, stretchy grey corduroy with lots and lots of buttons for little fingers to push.

Next softies are gonna be a dog and a cat for Robot Buddy's owner's two older brothers. I'm looking forward to a less square shaped project.

Robot Template and More

Here's my template for my Robot Buddy I'm making for my nephew Baby Keith. The kid is freakin adorable and put me under his spell with his giant brown eyes and repeated attempts to make me fix his lego robot creation. So I'm making him this: And if it 'breaks', it'll be in Washington where his mum and dad will be responsible for fixing it. It should be done this week (maybe even tomorrow if I buckle down). He's gonna be really soft grey corduroy with lots and lots of robot buttons. After that, it'll be two more stuffed creatures for his equally adorable older twin brothers (who I believe are almost five years old). One might be a llama and another a dog if I have their current fixations down correctly.

And of course, this is another felt flower. Typical of me, I know.

Even More Felt Flowers

I promise to have something different soon. These are just so fun and easy and simple to do while watching House. Here are some pretties:

Soon though, the robot buddy stuffed creature I've been working on will be done. Plus I'm branching into (wait for it) 3D felt flowers (yes I'm obsessed, but 3D!). Oh and I have some paper crafts planned for the near future and pottery classes have started again. I promise this isn't strictly the felt flower blog.

More Hairpins

Here's some new ones:

And for Jen, a picture of the back (although the sewing on this one is a bitt sloppy).
Next up is a plan to make a whole garland of these to hang over my bedroom door. They're fun to make and there's no limit for how to decorate them.

For the Love of Felt (and color)

Now I'm fiddling about with these adorable barrettes. While dying for color that's never appearing outside, I've decided to adorn myself with color. Here it is:

I really like the lil girl cutesiness of them. But the pictures are making me wonder if it isn't time to dye my hair again - hopefully something that doesn't clash with my felts.
