Crooks, composers, and natives

This week saw lots more movie watching on my part.

We went and saw Oceans 13 at the theater. Man do they put Brad Pitt in some awesome suits! And the movie was such a fun bit of nonsense. I think I'd still be going to see it when it was Oceans 29.

Rented Impromptu from the library. Its a comedy about George Sands and Chopin. Plus it has Bernadette Peters and Emma Thompson in it. I thought it was sweet and fun. I think I'm in a period piece kind of mood lately so this fit the bill nicely.
And lastly, I rewatched Last of the Mohicans. Great music and such fine-looking actors. And one of the most romantic movies I know of.

My current favorite song

Reasons why Nicole Miller should be my fairy godmother

She makes badass dresses. That's a good enough reason for me.

Fairy Tales and Lawyers

I recently was lent Enchantment by a friend of mine who knows how much I love fairy tales. It was alright. I do like Baba Yaga tales, but I'm not sure why it didn't grab me. It wasn't badly told - just a bit long. Maybe I was determined not to really like it cause I can't stand the author's politics. I'm not sure.

Then I watched the BBC series of Bleak House and loved it! I even got the boy to watch it with me. Amazing. Anyway, they did a terrific job even if Gillian Welch was all pinched looking - it went with the character. Loved it loved it loved it!

Raincoat Prettiness

This raincoat is both ridiculously cute and expensive. Wish it were within my budget (which these days is nil anyway). Sigh....

Never enough felt

I have had a chance to play with my felt pieces some more. Here's two felt flowers I made. I'm particularly pleased with the first one.

And while playing around with the felt bits I discovered the perfect pink afro. So I wanna try my hand at a gorgeous felt doll. I think she'll need some awesome felt bell bottomed pants .

I may try again at her face since I'm not happy with my first try.

How to Ruin a Painting

Remember this?
I ruined it. I thought it was too dull, and had the genius idea to do a silhouette over top of it in a translucent gold. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

Well the goldish silhouette just looked like a dirty smudge. (Note to self - Freezer paper stencils don't work so great over painted canvas). So I decided that I would just modge pode the silhouette cut out over the painting as a last minute attempt to salvage it. Here's the awful results:

Blech! Oh well - it was a learning experience.

so sweet and so cold

My friend Kristin and I have started a blog together - cause there just aren't enough out there I guess! We send eachother cool etsy finds several times a day. Instead of hunting through old emails for cool stuff sent days ago, we've decided to start compiling our finds in a new blog all about etsy prettiness. The blog can be found at so sweet and so cold.

I'm not losing this blog - just branching out a wee bit. Check it out!

Movie Watching Spree

So I've been watching scads of movies lately. Mostly something to do while I make more puffy stars and string them. I'm sending a bunch of star garlands to my nieces in Arizona.

I caught Fight Club on tv. I'm probably the last person in the world to watch this one, but I promise its been on my to-be-watched list forever! Anyway, I really liked it. Edward Norton kicks ass. Brad Pitt is enjoyable. The only slight downside is violent movies make me a touch feisty myself. (My husband thinks I should never be allowed to watch Kill Bill after last time when his friend and I started playing ninja warriors in the parking lot).

I also borrowed Into the Woods from the library. Bernadette Peters is great, but I was worried about watching this one. I had a roommate in college who was freakily obsessed with this soundtrack. The first half was a bit of a yawn, but I really liked the second half when things got more serious. And some of the songs really are pretty.

And this week's main obsession has been season three of Deadwood. How can you not love a show with lines like "When he ain't lying Al's the most honorable man you'll meet." So sad that there won't be any more of this show. The character development in this was just amazing.

Splish Splash

Love these galoshes from Kate Spade, but I seriously doubt I shall ever find myself in a position where its okay to spend $120+ for rain boots. But still they're so so adorable and fun!

Pretty....

Love this top, but I don't have the $477 necessary to own it. Sigh.....
Also - this is my 100th post! Wow!

Weirdos and Arabs

Two new movies watched in the last few days. The first was City of Lost Children. It was maybe too odd for me (I'm certainly losing my oddball credentials lately). I did love "The Octopus" though.

And also Lawrence of Arabia. All I can say is Peter O'Toole = hot. I guess that makes the desert extra hot. Oh and racing camels are badass!

Announcement

My first rock band shall be named Skunk Monkey.

That is all.

Pretty tanks

Spotted these on Urban Outfitters. I'm in serious need of cute tank tops. The first one even has little sparrows on it. Too cute!

We can never go back!

I have to share my love for A Softer World. Its one of the most fantastic things on the internet. Just take a look.

Thaleron

If you haven't read Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials yet, you really should. They're amazing! Even better than Harry Potter. Anyway in honor of the movie they're making from the first book, you can get your own daemon! Very cool. Here's mine. His name is Thaleron.

Get your very own daemon here.

Thanks for the tip, Small Fox!
