I realized that I hadn't shared some awesome thrifty finds. Please ignore the clutter!


Here is one corner of my living room. The yellow piece on the wall is really a silk scarf my husband found. We stretced it over a canvas and hung it up. I love it. The dragon was a goodwill find from years ago. I'm losing some fondness for it, but the husband keeps pointing out its supposedly excellent feng shui (even though I'm pretty sure he knows nothing about feng shui).

That awesome macrame ttree hanging was originally meant for etsy via MiriamandEleanor but I fell in love with it. The dangers of having a vintage shop!

And this I had to share cause it looks so pretty. Just ignore the laundry basket. And the bench that mneeds recovered. The iron bed is a serious find though. My parents found it at an auction and refinished it for us. The dresser (in need of replacement knobs) was a yardsale find.

Ever so slowly I'm working on finding things I like better and replacing some of our pieces or finding ways to improve upon what we already have. We're not much for brand new furniture whenever possible.

Monsters

We had these on our windows for the Halloween party. Also inspired by Martha Stewart. I love how the bird monster looks like he has intentions for the feeder.

Halloween pictures (part 1)

We had a Halloween party on Saturday. (which by the way was #87 on my 101 list.) I was Frida Kahlo (which hardly anyone got, but I'm always okay with that). Everyone came in costume! It was great.

So so wrong I know but he is my little brother. He's used to getting away with shit.

I found this banner at the local Goodwill. The bats in the hallway were inspired by Martha Stewart, high priestess of all holiday crafting. In fact almost all our decor was ripped straigh from good ol' Martha.

Glittery skull! A pain but so cool looking.

The whole house was covered in webs and spiders and a couple of these spider balls.

My favorite costume of the night:

"Peg" even brought keychains to sell and a camera for any much-needed Glamour Shots. Very thorough!

New Obsession

Are you watching Pushing Daisies yet? If not, you should be. Freakin adorable and the best set design I've ever seen on a tv show.

And speaking of pretty rooms - go vote for Jamie's mad decorating skills on Apartment Therapy. I want her to come and prettify my place now too.

Looking at this mirror would make everyday that much better (even if I looked like crap in it). Isn't it pretty?

Wall Art

First a disclaimer - I had nothing to do with this one. All credit goes to the amazing Mr. Char. A while back he put up some CD case wall art a la ReadyMade. The landscape picture he used was cool, but there were some errors in putting it in and it wasn't very colorful. This week he swapped out the landscape for another one of his pictures, a closeup of some sunflower petals.

And yes, it is huge and colorful. Its perfect for our living room. A room that is gonna look even better thanks to a tip from Marissa! She told me that the birdcage curtains we both adore were on sale. Now I have two panels of this loveliness wafting its way to me.

People are so clever! Isn't this lovely? Okay maybe in addition to painting my walls, I should be thinking of cool murals to put on them. I usually am not all that taken with murals. They have to be done really well not to make me think of a nursery room.

But this is stunning - and the design is somewhat simple (not easy, but not too fancyish). Hmmm...the possibilities are endless.

CD Case Art

This was all my husband's work. The project is from the ReadyMade book. The photograph is his own.

He accidentally flipped a few of the panels, but it doesn't show too much with a big landscape like this. And he'll be able to change the picture when he likes cause they're just velcroed to the wall. Best part is that he's using CD cases which is something that cannot be recycled. We've had lots of compliments and some friends even want him to come over and install something similiar in their own homes.

Oooh color

As a longtime apartment dweller, I have been coping with white walls for an insane amount of time. All the colorful artwork, fabrics and odds and ends in the world just will not cut it anymore. I need paint - vibrant paint colors would cheer up my place so much. And really, that rent deposit is probably gone anyway, right?

I've been flickring and here are my inspirations:

This I envy the most. I think if let loose, I would totally go for eclectic gypsy chic. Love love love all the color and prettiness. The garland! The major problem is that I'm an absolute clutter-phobe, and I'd have to get over that to allow such lovelyness. Really, I just want to crawl into this picture and live in this room.

This color of green is striking me so much lately. Its so clean and zippy and vibrant. Doesn't this room look like the best spot for spending time with friends and serving margaritas.

Isn't this color serene and oh so pretty? It would be perfect for a bedroom. But I dream of a bedroom this color:

I've been dreaming of a lavender bedroom for the longest time. The room is a bit ehh, but the color is divine.

Those colors are insanely gorgeous. Sigh...

Baby blue and bright red is an inspired combo. Maybe for our office/craft room.

This wallpaper is great too. And I never figured myself for much of a wallpaper fan, but if its this lovely, I can convert.

Very peaceful and romantic.


Maybe this sherbert color for the crafty room. I need it somewhere - I'm sure of that.


Love this - maybe for the living room or dining room.

And if only I had huge sunny windows (and a huge sunny bathroom to go with), I could go for this. It would be the best spot for zenlike baths.
